Donna Mingarda Sangiovese

The wine aged in French oak barrels for twelve months, after which it was optimally flavoured in bottle for at least another six months. This results in delicious fruity aromas that are perfectly interwoven with smoky wood tones. The finish is as expected from a traditionally made Italian: fruity with a pleasant smoke and endlessly long. Bellissimo!

 

Colline San Biagio 

 

In the interior of Tuscany, stretched over the hills surrounding the picturesque villages of San Biagio, are the seven hectares of vineyards of the traditional wine house Colline San Biagio. The village is part of the still relatively unknown wine region Carmignano where wine is made of a particularly high quality for about 3,000 years. The history of the winery takes us back to the 13th century when one of the buildings of the current winery served as a monastery. Monks from that monastery helped local winemakers with grape growing and winemaking. The old walls of the former monastery still exude the atmosphere of that time. The winery, which belongs to the top of Tuscany, feels always connected with the traditions and rich history of the area. This is expressed in this traditional Donna Mingarda Sangiovese.

 

“Blood of Jupiter”

 

No other grape is as popular in Tuscany as Sangiovese. The grape is the cradle of great wines such as Chianti, Rosso di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. Wines where the grape is blended with other popular Italian varieties. But in Donna Mingarda, the winemakers dared to let the grape perform solo. That requires guts! The grape can, in fact, provide strong tannins in the wine. However, in the right hands, Sangiovese which literally means “blood of Jupiter” guarantees savoury wines with aromas of cherries, figs complemented by warm dark notes of tobacco, chocolate and leather.
